The closing gift is nice. The thing that keeps you top of mind is what you do six months later.
Most agents disappear after the keys change hands. Then two years go by, the client neighbor needs an agent, and they cannot remember your name. A client appreciation event fixes that. It is a simple, genuine way to stay in people lives so you are the obvious answer when they or anyone they know needs to move. Known before you are needed. The foundation is here: what Community Market Leader® means.
Why events beat another email
You can email your past clients all day. But sitting across from them, laughing, handing their kid a balloon, that is the stuff people remember. An event turns a transaction into a relationship. And relationships are what fill your sphere of influence with people who refer you without being asked.
This is not about selling. Nobody walks into your pie pickup wanting a listing pitch. You are there to give, period. That is serving, not selling, and it is why it works.
Events that do not cost a fortune
You do not need a ballroom. Some of the best ones are small.
Pie giveaway before Thanksgiving. Clients swing by your office or a local bakery and grab a pie. Ten minutes of hellos each, all day long. Movie morning. Rent a theater for a kids movie, invite your past clients and their families. Cheap, and parents love you for it. Shred day. Partner with a shredding truck and let the community bring old documents. You are outside saying hi to everyone for hours. An ice cream truck at a park in summer. A pumpkin patch meetup in fall.
Pick one that fits your personality. If you are forcing it, people feel that. If you are having fun, they feel that too.
Make it local and make it you
The best events tie you to your town, not just your past clients. Sponsor a cleanup at the park everyone uses. Host a small business pop-up with three local shops. This is how you stop being a generic agent and become the local one, the same move that makes you the go-to agent in your town.
Film it, by the way. A quick video of your packed pie giveaway does more for your reputation than any ad. Now the people who could not come still see you serving your community.
Turn the event into year-round goodwill
One event a year is good. The magic is the follow-through. Snap photos, tag people, send a thank-you note after. Keep the warmth going so the event is not a one-day spike, it is a steady reminder that you care. That goodwill quietly feeds your lead generation all year, no chasing required.

Plan one small event this quarter. Invite your past clients and your sphere. Show up, give, have fun, and let people remember why they liked working with you. For more, see personal branding and authority.
