Most agents sell too soon. They meet someone at a kid's birthday party and within four minutes they're handing over a card and asking if they know anyone looking to buy or sell. And then they wonder why nobody calls.

Here's the shift that changed my entire business. Serve, don't sell. Give so much value, for so long, with no strings attached, that you become the obvious choice without ever pitching. Known before you're needed. That's the whole game.

Let me explain what that actually looks like, because the words add value get thrown around so much they've lost their meaning.

Selling repels, serving attracts

When you lead with the ask, people put their guard up. They can feel it. The hungry agent energy makes people back away, even nice people who like you.

When you lead with help, the opposite happens. You answer the question they were embarrassed to ask. You explain the thing their last agent never bothered to. You make their life a little easier with no agenda. Now they trust you. And trust is the only thing that actually closes deals.

This is attraction based marketing. Clients come to you because you've been useful, not because you chased them. No chasing.

What serving actually means

It's not vague. It's specific stuff you can do this week.

Teach the thing they're confused about. Make a quick video explaining how property taxes work in your county. Boring to you, gold to a first time buyer.

Answer questions in public. Every question a client asks you privately is a piece of content. Answer it once on camera and help a thousand people who were too shy to ask.

Point people to good stuff that isn't yours. The best taco truck. The plumber who actually shows up. When you're the person who connects your community, you become the center of it.

Show up for things that have nothing to do with a sale. The school fundraiser. The cleanup day. Be a real part of your town, not a billboard that lives there.

That's how you build what I call the trust bank. Every helpful thing is a deposit. By the time someone's ready to buy or sell, your account is so full that choosing you isn't even a decision. It's obvious.

The part nervous agents get wrong

I hear it constantly. But Krista, if I give everything away for free, why would anyone pay me? Backwards. The free stuff is what proves you're worth paying for.

Nobody hires the agent who kept their knowledge locked up. They hire the one who already helped them ten times and clearly knows their stuff. You're not giving away the farm. You're showing people the farm so they want you to run it.

And the quiet part. Most agents won't do this. They want the sale today. So the field is wide open for the agent willing to serve first and trust the timing. To stay consistent with it, build the habit I describe in building a content habit when you hate posting.

Serving is a system, not a personality

You don't have to be a naturally generous saint. You need a system. Decide what you'll teach, set a rhythm, and show up on repeat. My daily content strategy turns serving into something you do without thinking about it.

And serving runs through everything. Your social posts serve. Your emails serve. Your videos serve. Your ads can put your most helpful content in front of more people, which is serving at scale. It's all one motion. Give, give, give, and the asking takes care of itself.

This is the foundation of becoming a Community Market Leader®, and it's how you become the go to agent in your town. I broke down exactly how to do it in my how to become the go to trusted resource for your community video.

Where the leads come from

People worry that serving doesn't pay the bills. It does, just not on day one. The agent who serves their market for a year has a pipeline that never runs dry, because the whole town already trusts them. That feeds every other lead source you've got. See how it fits the bigger picture in 7 lead sources that actually work.

Start serving this week

Here's your assignment. Write down the ten questions clients ask you most. Those aren't annoyances. They're your content plan. Answer one this week, on video, with zero pitch at the end. Just help.

Do that on repeat and one day you'll realize you stopped chasing business entirely. It started chasing you. That's what serving builds.
