Here's what most agents miss about YouTube. The big 10-minute video is where trust gets built. But Shorts are how people find you in the first place.
Think of Shorts as the front door and your long-form videos as the living room. Somebody scrolls past a 40-second clip of you explaining why homes in one neighborhood sell faster. They tap your name. Now they're watching your full market update. Now they subscribe. Now you're in their feed for good.
That's the flywheel. And almost nobody in your market is running it.
Why bother with Shorts at all
Because that's where the eyeballs are, and because they cost you almost nothing once you're already making video. NAR's 2025 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers found that 37% of buyers used an online video site during their search and 51% found the home they bought through the internet. Your buyers and sellers are watching video before they're ready to talk. Shorts get you in front of them early, while they're still researching, long before they fill out a form.
Compare that to the old way of getting attention. Buying a list and dialing strangers. Mailing postcards into the void. Sitting at an open house hoping the right person wanders in. Shorts flip it. People come to you because you handed them something useful in 40 seconds.
What makes a good real estate Short
One idea. That's it. Don't try to teach the whole listing process in 50 seconds. Pick one question and answer it clean.
Hook in the first two seconds. Not "hey guys." Start with the point. "This is the mistake that costs sellers the most money." Then deliver.
Talk like a person. The agents who do well on Krista Mashore's Shorts sound like they're talking to one friend, not presenting to a room. If you want help sounding natural, I wrote a whole piece on talking on camera without sounding scripted.
End by pointing somewhere. "Full breakdown's on my channel." That sentence is what turns a viewer into a subscriber.
Shorts are not a separate job
This is the part that saves your sanity. You don't make Shorts AND long-form as two different projects. You make one good long video, then pull three or four Shorts out of the best moments. One shoot, a week of content. I laid out the full repurposing system in repurposing content for real estate.
And Shorts plug straight into your video marketing system. They sit alongside your YouTube channel strategy and your short-form video on other platforms. Same footage, more places, more people who know your name before they need you.
The real reason this works
It's not the algorithm. It's repetition. When the same person sees you explain your market ten, twenty, thirty times, you stop being an option and start being the agent. That's what it means to be known before you're needed, and it's the whole point of becoming the obvious choice in your town.
Top producer equals top marketer. Shorts are the cheapest, fastest way to put that to work. Want to see how every channel connects, the real estate marketing overview ties it together.
Post the first one this week. It'll be rough. Post it anyway. Six months of rough beats a perfect plan you never started.
